Pic of the Day – David Fincher

David Fincher seems a little puzzled over something as he flicks through FILMINK... Maybe he’s stuck on the crossword page...

As the highly anticipated The Social Network is released today, we thought it was only appropriate for our Pic of the Day to feature legendary director David Fincher who has carved a name for himself with his moody thrillers and innovative visual style. After refining his skills with a collection of music videos, Fincher's first stab at directing came with Alien 3 in 1992. While the sci-fi flick wasn't critically well received, the noirish crime thriller Seven - his follow-up film - won the director commercial and critical success, marking him as an unusual but incredible talent. Other career highlights include, of course, Fight Club, the suspense-driven The Panic Room and the period thriller Zodiac. More recently Fincher reunited with Brad Pitt in the beautifully shot but yawn-inducing The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (come on, 3 hours?!). However, he's returned with The Social Network which has deservedly been labelled as a strong Oscar contender. Only someone like Fincher could turn Facebook, business ethics and intellectual property into a sexy thriller...

Make sure you check out our video interview with Jesse Eisenberg who discusses, among other things, what it was like to work with the director.
